I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status

Adjustment of Status is the process of applying for lawful permanent resident status if you are in the United States. The Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) and other Federal laws provide many different paths to adjust status to that of a lawful permanent resident. The eligibility requirements for adjustment of status vary depending on the immigrant category you are applying under. This process is commonly referred to as applying for a “green card.”
